We’ve all heard that buying a house is a near-impossible task for Millennials, especially if you want to live anywhere near where you work.

Huge numbers of twenty-somethings and even thirty-somethings are living with their parents in order to save rent and dream of property ownership.

And while we can’t buy our own property, it seems just as impossible to justify renting our own places either. Especially if we’re single.

And so, if we want to live away from the family home, a shared house is often the solution.

Back into the fray

I found myself back in a shared house after not having lived in one for seven years. I wasn’t super stoked about the idea.

The main issue with shared houses for me is this; you can never entirely relax.

When you live with a partner, you don’t have to be someone you’re not. You don’t have to make small talk and you don’t have to jostle for space on the hob. You live together.

With housemates though, the opposite is true.

With housemates, you’re still not home when you walk through the front door. You’re not truly home until you get into your room. In fact…
