The Honey Coupon Advert Epitomises Everything Wrong with Shopping

Which is a shame, because it’s brilliantly useful

The fast fashion industry relies on convincing us we do not have the right clothes. It relies on us believing that not only do we not have the right clothes but we will, in fact, be looked down upon for not having such clothes.

But of course, we do have enough clothes. We do have the right clothes.

But if we believed that, we wouldn’t need anymore until our existing clothes started getting holes.

The genuine genius of Honey

Honey is a coupon website and browser extension that automatically applies every coupon it can find to your online shopping basket and gets you the best deal.

It stops you from having to Google search ‘[Shop name] voucher/coupon’ and copy and paste codes until you find which one works.

In short, it’s genius. It solves a common problem and saves the consumer money and time. What’s not to love? If you’re going to buy something, you may as well save money while you’re at it.

But one of the Honey adverts highlights everything that’s wrong with our consumerist, debt-riddled society and actively encourages it.
