The Best Piece of Advice I Ever Received

There’s a certain type of person out there who refuses the help of others. They’ll not only never ask for help but they’ll never take advice and help when it’s offered.

Why?

What they’ll say: No, I can do everything myself

What they mean: I don’t want to look weak

Funnily enough, the inability to ask for and accept advice and help is a weakness. It’s an insecurity that prevents people from growing their knowledge and progressing in their lives.

Often, they’d much rather follow their own advice and fail than ask for help. They’d much rather something fail than admit being mistaken.

I think I refused help for many years. In my early twenties I thought I should be able to handle everything myself. It’s a special kind of arrogance that some people never grow out of.

But then I learnt that most people love to share their knowledge. I mean, they really love it. It’s obvious when you think about it. Have you ever been asked for advice and found yourself still animatedly talking twenty minutes later?

We love to impart our hard-earned knowledge. We love to be recognised as a person who can help. It gives us a purpose that we often drift…
