Scared of Driving? You’re Not Alone
The more you talk about it, the more you’ll hear the same experiences
I didn’t talk about my fear of driving for many years and assumed that I was the only person — especially my age — who felt it.
When you don’t talk about something that’s bothering you, you feel isolated and alone. You have no idea that thousands, no, hundreds of thousands of people feel the same.
I only discovered this when I finally started talking to friends and colleagues about how not driving was affecting my mental health.
So many people said, ‘oh! Me too!’. They hadn’t driven for years or avoided it as much as possible. They suffered anxiety every time they had to drive. They avoided certain conditions, certain times of day or night.
Many had rid themselves of the fear but had once been plagued by it. But nothing was a surprising as a conversation I had with one of my best friends last week.
The things we hide from the world
I’m on the lookout for a car. My first car. I’ve decided that enough is enough and I need to commit to defeating this fear.
