Defeating Fear One Step at a Time
A little more each day
When you’re afraid of something, looking at is as a whole is overwhelming.
You shut down.
Nope. Can’t do that.
It’s not just fear either, it’s anything. When face with a blank page and 80,000 words to write, it seems impossible.
When faced with a house deposit to find and £20 in the bank, it feels like you could never times it by a thousand or two.
But we have a plan for these things. We write a page at a time. We save £400 a month. We break it down into manageable chunks.
Facing the fear
I bought a car the other day. I’m about to turn 31 and I passed my test over 13 years ago.
This is my first car. And I’m terrified.
I have this goal that, in 8 days, I want to drive to my parents’ house 100 miles away. It seems impossible.
But I have to go because I need to visit a family member in hospital and whilst I could take public transport, if I do that then why did I buy a car?
So I want to drive.
Sitting down for the next week and ruminating on it isn’t going to help. I have to break down the fear and conquer it one step at a time.
