Ahh, I agree with this so much! I’ve been to some countries but didn’t go to the Main Site and people always seem so disappointed! As if skipping the big named tourist hotspots meant I didn’t fully see the country. But I love to wander around places without a plan and get lost in the streets or have the flexibility to go on an impromptu trip somewhere else if I see the opportunity.
I do think that bucket lists become a tick-list situation where you’re no longer travelling for the experience of travel, but travelling to tick something off a list. The List almost seems to enforce limits on you when the whole idea is to free yourself up to experience other places. And where’s the sense of adventure and unknown in that?
